Giaimo and Nordicity have been engaged by the City of Kawartha Lakes to conduct a feasibility study on the development of a cultural centre and municipal archive for the City of Kawartha Lakes. The new facility will include: incubation spaces to help artists turn their passion into a creative business; public access to municipal archives and historical artifacts, including a research room and exhibit space; spaces for events, meetings, rehearsals, and exhibitions; workshop and production spaces for Kawartha Craft Guilds, and more. Process
In 2022, Phase 1 was completed and included community consultations, public engagement, market assessment, precedent study, operations modelling, assessment of existing municipally-owned assets and facilities, location analysis, and design guidelines. In 2023-2024, the project continued with a Phase 2 that focused on refining findings, as well as program-space needs, facility design, and site selection. While this phase of work was completed in 2024, Phase 2 has been extended as our team was successful in receiving a Green Municipal Fund to support further study into designing the facility to meet Net-Zero targets.
