MITCHELL MAY JOINS TORONTO PRESERVATION BOARD

In February 2024, Giaimo Associate Mitchell May, OAA, CAHP, was appointed by Toronto City Council to the Toronto Preservation Board (TPB) for a term office ending in February 2028.

TPB provides advice to City Council on the identification, protection and promotion of the cultural heritage resources that make Toronto a unique and sustainable place to live. TPB, with the assistance of staff, advises and assists Council on:

  • Designation of individual heritage properties and heritage conservation districts and inclusion of properties on the City’s Heritage Register;
  • Applications to alter, demolish or remove properties included on the City’s Heritage Register;
  • Authorizing entering into heritage easements or covenants;
  • Grants for the preservation of heritage properties;
  • Other duties relating to Heritage Preservation as may arise.

Mitchell May is an Architect and Heritage Building Specialist at Giaimo Architects, in Toronto.  He works across scales, from the adaptive reuse of designated towers, to the detailed restoration of building elements. He has a broad range of experience in conservation, renewal, adaptive reuse and the integration of old and new construction. In addition to built work, Mitchell has researched, written, and presented on heritage buildings and issues.
