PANEL AND TOUR: HOLDING UP HISTORY

DesignTO Festival 2022

‘Holding Up History’ is a two-part program organized by DesignTO Festival exploring the influence of façadism as an architectural and conceptual strategy for bringing elements from the past into the future.

The panel talk includes four speakers: Ria-Al Ameen, Associate at Giaimo, Suzanne Kavanagh, Chair of the Development Committee of the St. Lawrence Neighbourhood Association, Wei-Han Vivian Lee, Director of the Maser of Architecture program at University of Toronto Daniels Faculty, and Lulu Wei, Toronto-based director and cinematographer. Moderated by DesignTO Programs Assistant adé abegunde, the discussion delves into ways in which heritage preservation strategies can be used to remember the past without hindering future development.

The self-guided tour highlights 10 different sites across the city featuring diverse applications of heritage conservation, including Giaimo’s Sunday School Lofts and Hermant Buildings.
