DEMOLITION SHOLD BE A LAST RESORT
Heritage BC 2023 Conference
Giaimo’s Creative Director Stephanie Mah will be presenting in the session “Make the Argument: Demolition should be a last resort – Understanding the environmental value of our existing buildings” at the upcoming 2023 Heritage BC Conference, May 25-27 in Chilliwack, BC. The session also includes presentations by Jeffrey McCord of Nickel Bros. and Brenda Martens, Principal at Aedify, and counts towards 1.5 CPL Credits. Heritage Advocates know that the Greenest Building is the one that has already been built. This panel brings together presenters who live this motto in their work to share data and examples that prove this case. From Life Cycle Assessments to Embodied Carbon, learn the data behind why this argument just makes sense. Then see examples from moving heritage buildings to adaptive re-use cases that show the key role that heritage conservation can play in a sustainable society. The session will take place on Saturday, May 27, from 15:00-16:30.
The conference theme this year is “Becoming Agents for Change” as heritage is a unique tool we can use to fight for the kind of world that we want to live in, whether by creating an inclusive community, fighting climate change, implementing actions towards reconciliation, or building economic resilience.
